Hello.

My name is Alamgir Munir Qazi.

I'm a PhD researcher at the University of Galway, Ireland , working at the intersection of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Information Retrieval (IR) — with a focus on building efficient, scalable systems for misinformation detection.

My research explores how retrieval-based approaches can outperform large generative models in fact verification — offering better efficiency and fewer hallucinations. Currently, I'm extending this work to the multimodal domain, aiming to bring the same retrieval efficiency and scalability to systems that handle both text and images.

With 6+ years of industry experience, including as Senior Engineer @ Digitalocean , I bring an engineering perspective to AI research focused on efficiency and practical impact.

I write about tech on my Blog, maintain Reading Notes of books I read, and you can find me on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Github. My CV is available here. You can also reach out to me at [email protected]
